SSGC, as the first national smart grid research center, was approved by National Energy Administration in November 2009. It is jointly invested by The National Energy Administration, the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Government and State Grid Corporation, and Shanghai Jiaotong University. It is one of the first sixteen research and experiment bases of energy industry approved by the National Energy Administration.

 

There are nine departments in SSGC, including Institute of Renewable Energy Integration, Institute of Smart Transmission & Transformation, Institute of Smart Distribution & Utilization, Institute of Power System Planning, Institute of Power System Operation, ISGAN China Liaison Office, Academic Committee, University-Enterprise Joint Research Center, and Materials Management Center. The research of SSGC covers all aspects of the smart grid and related field.

 

SSGC, with the mission of offering scientificresearch and technology-related support to the development of smart grid, has overcome a series of major core technologies of smart grid and related fields. Since the establishment of SSGC,
we have participated in more than 50 major projects (up to 2013), which include sixteen 863 projects, three 973 projects, thirty-two NSFC projects, one Sino-foreign cooperation project, and three National Science and Technology Support Program. Through our efforts, 80 patent applications were approved. In addition, we have published 520 theses and 10 monographs and won 4 science and technology prizes at provincial-level and above.
